Trans men who are seeking change to their physical appearance may begin working out and becoming more active before starting hormone therapy. Being active helps to stimulate the bodies natural responses to increase testosterones levels. Think about how female extreme body builders transform their bodies and how even their voice change over time. Considering they are natural body builders, this change wouldn’t be so dramatic. However, if that body builder starts using Testosterone you would hear a major difference in her voice among many other things.
Estrogen is the female hormone that promotes feminine features. For trans men that are seeking more masculine characteristics, they can achieve that by introducing testosterone therapy to deplete their estrogen levels.
Before you start treatment you should consider what your personal goals are. Do you want to go from Boy to Man overnight, or do you prefer to take a slower more controlled approach with a lower dosage? Write your questions and goals down and speak with your healthcare provider about which options are best for you.
There is no one size fits all approach to hormone therapy so you should consider many factors before beginning treatment. Factors that should be considered are overall health, age, and tolerance.
